The Geneva Centre monitored the UN Human Rights Council meetings during its 50th regular session (HRC50) from 13 June to 8 July 2022. The session began with the presentation of the Annual Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the session, the Council held 27 Interactive Dialogues with Special Procedures mandate holders and mechanisms and 9 Interactive Dialogues with the High Commissioner. On the opening day the Council heard statements from 2 visiting dignitaries, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs from the Republic of Indonesia, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. The Council also adopted outcomes of the UPR.
Thematic areas/discussions included topics related to economic, social and cultural rights, civil and political rights and the rights of specific groups, including the Annual Discussion on Women’s Rights, peaceful assembly, climate change, migrants, freedom of expression, extreme poverty, racism, trafficking, education, and health, among others.
Country specific topics included human rights situations in Afghanistan, Belarus, Burundi, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Georgia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Libya, Mali, Mariupol (Ukraine), Myanmar, Nicaragua, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Syrian Arab Republic, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
