FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement & Global Dialogue (GCHRAGD) strives to promote a universal, value-driven human rights system anchored in equity, non-discrimination, inclusiveness, and solidarity. The Centre was established in Geneva in 2013 and was granted special consultative status in 2017 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The Centre is an independent human rights think-tank and advocacy institution whose mission is to identify human rights needs and challenges and actively promote and encourage those working in the field.

The Geneva Centre believes that training is an essential leverage for the enhancement of human rights knowledge, promotion and practices. The Geneva Centre’s trainings on human rights usually focus on the Centre’s core thematic areas of equality, non-discrimination, justice, gender issues, women’s rights and interfaith dialogue, as well as international conferences and developments related to human rights.

The Geneva Centre’s human rights training programme is unique for the following reasons:

  • The Centre adjusts to the level, background and future careers needs of the participants;
  • Besides its experienced staff, the Centre invites high-level lecturers and experts, available in Geneva academia and international organizations, with solid theoretical and practical experience in human rights law and international humanitarian law, to deliver innovative training modules.
  • Participants learn the methods and techniques to work with such mechanisms as Human Rights Council (HRC), Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Treaty Bodies, and Special Procedures.
  • The Geneva Centre’s trainings specifically address the role of civil society in human rights negotiations.

The Geneva Centre offers a wide range of training activities, such as courses, intensive workshops, and seminars, providing participants with an opportunity to learn more about international organizations in Geneva, including the United Nations and its Human Rights Council sessions through active participation in its sessions, visits to Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and other relevant Geneva-based institutions. Trainings are offered both on-site and online. There are two types of training, adapted to the requirements and skills of the participants.

On request, the Centre also offers tailor-made training programs in collaboration with academic and non-profit partner organizations in Geneva.

The Geneva Centre organizes trainings to provide capacity-building to a variety of interested stakeholders, including students, lawyers, journalists, government officials, civil society representatives and human rights activists.

Training programs offered by the Geneva Centre take place three times a year, concomitantly with the sessions of the UN Human Rights Council.
