The UN Human Rights Council held its 44th regular session at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 30th June to 17th July 2020. During the 44th Session, the Council focused on various serious and urgent human rights issues across the globe. It comes as no surprise that many statements, dialogues, and discussions addressed COVID-19.
The Geneva Centre covered the session extensively, placing the main focus on its areas of interest such as, among others: women’s rights, rights of the child, climate change and human rights, right to a healthy environment, rights of migrants, right to education, international solidarity, and human rights implications of COVID-19 pandemic. The Geneva Centre also followed and reported on the presentation of reports by the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and UN Secretary-General.
The reports produced by the Geneva Centre on the 44th session of the Human Rights Council were also shared externally by partner organisations, including by United Nations Office in Geneva Library Sources and Geneva Environment Network, coordinated by UN Environment with the support from the Government of Switzerland.
