A national of the United Arab Emirates, Ms Alia Fares joined the Geneva Centre in September 2020 as a Training Specialist.
She designs training programs and activities for students and professionals in the field of human rights. The core purpose of these training programs is to provide such stakeholders with increased expertise, thereby promoting national capacity building, especially with regard to the MENA countries. It also aims to strengthen their knowledge of human rights related issues such as gender and women’s rights, interfaith dialogue, education for peace, by offering them hands-on experience through participation in the sessions of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, visits to OHCHR and other relevant Geneva-based institutions.
She assists with the organization, coordination and implementation of the activities of the Centre in support to the Programme and Information officers. She also focuses on the exploration of collaboration opportunities with think tanks and academia in the MENA region.
She previously worked as the head of the Training & Education section at the Emirates National School, in Abu Dhabi. At the ENS, she planned and facilitated training programs, and supervised their implementation. She also assisted in hiring and recruiting staff, in addition to working with committees, including academic boards and governing bodies.
Alia holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership in Education from Abu Dhabi University. She also holds a Professional Diploma in Teaching and a Bachelors in English Language & Literature from the UAE University.
