Human rights, although universal at the normative level, are not universal in practice. There is a gap between the multilateral centres of debate and decision, primarily in Geneva and New York, and the rest of the world, between international consensus and State-level implementation.
There is a pressing need of raising human rights awareness and understanding, and overcoming divisive trends by fostering human rights dialogue across cultures, religions and civilizations.
In this regard, the Geneva Centre closely follows and participates in the United Nations human rights mechanisms in Geneva and abroad, such as the UN Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review, producing summary reports of the meetings. Through our HRC Reporting Initiative, we aim to close the gap between the decision centres and the rest of the world. Our briefing papers, analytical reports and summaries are all available on our website and via subscribing to our HRC Mailing List. They are an important tool in our objective of raising human rights awareness.
