The Geneva Centre will monitor the UN Human Rights Council meetings during its 50th regular session (HRC50).
The 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC50) will be held at the United Nations Office in Geneva from 13 June to 8 July 2022. The session will begin with the presentation of the Annual Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the session, the Council will hold 27 Interactive Dialogues with Special Procedures mandate holders and mechanisms and 9 Interactive Dialogues with the High Commissioner. On the opening day the Council will hear statements from 2 visiting dignitaries, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs from the Republic of Indonesia, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. The Council will also adopt outcomes of the UPR.
Thematic areas/discussions will include topics related to economic, social and cultural rights, civil and political rights and the rights of specific groups, including the Annual Discussion on Women’s Rights, peaceful assembly, climate change, migrants, freedom of expression, extreme poverty, racism, trafficking, education, and health, among others.
Country specific topics will include human rights situations in Afghanistan, Belarus, Burundi, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Georgia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Libya, Mali, Mariupol (Ukraine), Myanmar, Nicaragua, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Syrian Arab Republic, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
