The Geneva Centre closely monitored the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC57), h0ld from 9 September to 11 October 2024 at Palais des Nations in Geneva.

During the 57 session, the Council considered thematic issues including the interactive dialogues with the Special Rapporteur on water and sanitation, on right to development, on rights of indigenous peoples, on truth, justice and reparation, on slavery, on climate change, on reprisals, and on nuclear legacy in the Marshall Islands, among others.

Country-specific topics included interactive dialogues with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Ukraine, Syrian Arab Republic, Russian Federation, Sudan, Belarus, Honduras, to name a few.

The panel discussions (6) analyzed the promoting and protecting economic, social and cultural rights within the context of addressing inequalities; the quality education for peace and tolerance for every child; the right to development; the implementation of States’ obligations on the role of the family in supporting the human rights of its members; the rights of Indigenous Peoples; and the integration of a gender perspective throughout the work of the Human Rights Council and that of its mechanisms.
