The theme of this year’s Human Rights Day is Youth Standing Up for Human Rights, a tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of a Child – and a further occasion to defend all these boys and girls that keep falling victims of conflicts and wars, forced labour and trafficking, homicide and abuse.
The 21st century has seen an unprecedented expansion of globalisation, yet, sadly, it has also witnessed a simultaneous growth in religious and ethnic intolerance. The fear of “the Other” – of those who are viewed as foreign or simply different – stimulates the rise of populism, hatred and marginalization.
