The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue’s “Veiling/Unveiling” catalogue explores the history of the headscarf in different religious and cultural contexts. The catalogue depicts the panels that were presented during a cultural exhibition on the headscarf, coordinated by the Geneva Centre and the Permanent Mission of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
This exhibition was displayed from 23 February to 1 March 2018 at Palais des Nations as a side-event to the 37th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council. The aim of this exhibition was to identify commonalities in the use of the headscarf through different historical epochs and in the three Abrahamic religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. It attempted to deconstruct existing myths regarding the use of the headscarf and its politicization in modern societies.
