The policy brief highlights how AI can amplify existing gender inequalities and patterns of discrimination, including through non-consensual sexualised imagery, deepfakes, and gender- and religion-based online abuse. It underscores the importance of a comprehensive, gender-responsive approach that goes beyond regulation to address the structural inequalities and harmful social norms that enable such abuses. It also emphasizes the need to empower women and girls to participate in shaping the development and use of AI, promote digital citizenship and ethical online behaviour, and engage young people, educators, and communities in fostering safer and more inclusive digital spaces.
The Geneva Centre remains committed to advancing human rights, gender equality, and inclusive dialogue, and to supporting efforts to ensure that technological progress contributes to the protection of human dignity and the empowerment of women and girls.
