Rt Hon Alistair Burt has been Pro-Chancellor of Lancaster University, and Chair of Council since 2020, and is the UK’s Commissioner on the International Commission on Missing Persons, a treaty based organisation situated in The Hague, since 2013.
Alistair Burt served as a UK Member of Parliament for 32 years between 1983-2019, serving as a Minister in the Governments of Prime Ministers John Major, David Cameron and Theresa May. He was most recently Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa at both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the Department for International Development, between 2017-19, having previously served as MENA Minister between 2010-13.
He maintains an active interest in Human Rights and Middle East affairs, serving on advisory bodies working across communities in Israel and Palestine, and is a part time advisor to Flint Global.
Mr Burt read Jurisprudence at Oxford University, qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court, and was appointed to Her Majesty’s Privy Council in 2013.
