H. E. Idriss Jazairy was appointed Executive Director of the Geneva Centre on Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue. The Board of Management of the Centre welcomed him and wished him every success in his new responsibilities.
Idriss Jazairy is a prominent Algerian diplomat known at the national and international level, with a long experience also in the management of the non-governmental sector.
He served as an ambassador for his country Algeria to Belgium, the United States, and the Vatican. He also occupied the post of Permanent Representative of Algeria to the UN Office in Geneva, and was one of the founding members of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
In 1984, he was elected as president for IFAD, a UN specialized agency, and later Chief Executive of ACORD, a consortium of international NGOs devoted to the empowerment of the poor in Africa. In the 90’s, Mr. Jazairy was also a member of the Board of CARE/USA.
Mr. Jazairy is the author of books and of a large number of articles in the international press on development, human rights and current affairs.
H.E. Dr. Hanif Hassan Al Qassim, the Chairman of the Geneva Centre’s Board of Management welcomed the appointment of the former Algerian Ambassador and expressed to him his confidence in ensuring that the Centre would, under his guidance, widen the scope of its worldwide human rights achievements.
