The Geneva Centre presents oral statements on the UPR outcomes of Saudi Arabia and Jordan

14 March 2019, GENEVA – At the 40th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Geneva Centre presented on 14 March statements with regard to Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

In its statement on Saudi Arabia, the Geneva Centre commended the various steps that the Kingdom had taken towards strengthening the protection and promotion of human rights which reflected a number of important recommendations contained in the report of the Working Group on the UPR.

وكانت هذه الاستنتاجات الرئيسية لحدث شارك في تنظيمه مركز جنيف لحقوق الإنسان والحوار العالمي ومكتبة مكتب الأمم المتحدة في جنيف بعنوان "القيادة في إطار تعددية الأطراف الحديثة".

ونُظم النقاش في 12 آذار/مارس 2019 في مكتب الأمم المتحدة في جنيف في قاعة المكتبة بقصر الأمم.

The Geneva Centre reiterates the importance of fully including women in the labour market and in all spheres of society on the occasion of International Women’s Day

8 March 2019, GENEVA – On the occasion of the observance of the 2019 International Women’s Day, the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue reiterated the urgent need to intensify efforts towards achieving gender equality in all spheres of society, eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls, and promoting women’s political and economic empowerment.

08 March 2019, GENEVA – On the occasion of the 40th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, Ambassador Idriss Jazairy, accompanied by the Centre’s Project and Communications Officer Mr Blerim Mustafa met with representatives from the Azeri-based NGO International Eurasia Press Fund led by its President Mr Umud Mirzayev accompanied by his advisers Mr Ramil Azizov and Ms Anastasia Lavrina.

جنيف، 7 آذار/مارس 2019-لا يوجد بلد في العالم له سجل مثالي فيما يخص حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين، وهناك حاجة ملموسة لتحقيق التعاون والمساعي المشتركة من أجل الوصول إلى الهدف المشترك المتمثل في تمكين المرأة ووضع حد لعدم المساواة بين الجنسين. ويجب منح النساء المسلمات الحق في اختيار ما يرتدينه بحرية وما لا يرتدينه، فضلاً عن المشاركة في المجتمع بالكامل، سواء من خلال إدخالهن في سوق العمل أو ببساطة من خلال ممارسة الرياضة.

The Geneva Centre is participating in upcoming UN Library Event on Leadership in Modern Multilateralism

5 March 2019: The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue has partnered with the UNOG Library and will take part in its upcoming Library event entitled  Leadership in Modern Multilateralism.

The debate will be held on 12 March from 12:30 to 14:00, at the United Nations Office in Geneva in the Library Events Room (B.135), Building B, First floor, at Palais Des Nations.

1 March 2019: To mark International Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide on 8 March, and to officially launch its latest publications on women and gender equality in the Arab world and beyond, entitled Women’s Rights in the Arab Region: Between Myth and Reality and Veiling /Unveiling:  The Headscarf in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, issued in February 2019, the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue is organizing a debate and book presentation entitled Muslim women between stereotypes and reality: an objective narrative.

GENEVA, 7 March 2019 – No country in the world has a perfect record on women’s rights and gender equality and there is a felt need for cooperation and joint endeavours in order to reach the common goal of empowering women and putting an end to gender inequality. Muslim women must be given the right to freely choose what to wear and what not to wear, and fully included in society, be it through insertion on the labour market or simply through the practice of sports.

7 March 2019, GENEVA – On 7 March, the Geneva Centre’s Executive Director Ambassador Idriss Jazairy was invited by the Permanent Delegation of the African Union to an official meeting of all African Group Ambassadors in Geneva to present the rationale and purpose of the Geneva Centre’s forthcoming conference on “Celebration of diversity: beyond tolerance the path towards empathy.”
