March 08 2017, GENEVA - “Our job is to provide an environment that unlocks women’s potential – one that protects their dignity and femininity, helps them create the necessary balance in their lives, and values their talents and potential. Given this environment, I am confident that women will perform nothing short of miracles.”

In every layer of humanity, women have made significant contributions to the development of our societies whether in politics, law or science.

World Day of Social Justice 2017: Message by Dr. Hanif Hassan Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue

February 20 2017, GENEVA - The distressing images of desperate people making the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean Sea and the Balkans to escape armed conflict, social tensions, discrimination and poverty harm the preconditions to achieve social harmony.

This humanitarian crisis is the result of decades of freewheeling globalization with no concern for social justice in all countries. One of its consequences is social upheavals and mass exodus.

Jihad and the so-called “Islamic State”: Terrorism is not Jihad – by Zidane Meriboute

As witnessed by an article published last weekend (22-23 November 2014) in the front-page of the International New York Times (“ISIS brand catches on for militants in Pakistan – Jihadists are beginning to take the group’s name and to pledge allegiance”) as well as by the name of the hotline recently set-up on the website of the French Ministry of Interior, “Fight against the djihadist networks” (“Lutte contre les filières djihadistes”), the erroneous use of the concepts of “jihad” and “jihadists” in relation to the hainous and barbarous acts perpetrated in Syria and Iraq by the so-called ISIL is unfortunately still very common; the Geneva Centre therefore deems it useful, if not necessary, to devote again an editorial (the previous one was authored by Idriss Jazaïry) intending to restore the true meaning of “Jihad”.

About the (mis)use of the term “jihadist” – by Idriss Jazaïry

The Geneva Centre would like to share with its readers Mr. Idriss Jazaïry’s thoughts about the misuse of the term “jihadist”. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Jazaïry is a former Algerian Ambassador and has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, the UN Human Rights Mechanisms as well as the UN system at large.

The world press is awash nowadays with the threats of “jihadists” and with heinous crimes committed by the “islamist militants” who have joined under the “Islamic State” banner.
