Training Program for UAE Journalists in Dubai: The Geneva Centre launches its "Human Rights-Media" cycle

14 July 2017, DUBAI - The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (Geneva Centre) organized a training session in Dubai, from 10th to 13th July, for 14 UAE journalists. A top-class program whose title announced in advance the timeliness of its implementation and the importance of its realization. "Enhancing Journalists’ Role in Promoting Human Rights" was the focus of this training.

Geneva Centre signs MoU with Arab League

On 20th November, the Geneva Centre achieved a remarkable milestone by signing a memorandum of understanding with the League of Arab States. By so doing, the Geneva Centre, represented on this occasion by its Executive Director Mr. Imad Zuhairi, and the League of Arab States, represented by the Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Kamlichi, paved the way for a long-lasting, comprehensive framework of cooperation.

Geneva Centre examines future cooperation with Human Rights Commission in Saudi Arabia

In the framework of strengthening the cooperation with human rights bodies in the Arab world, the Geneva Centre received a senior delegation from the Human Rights Commission in Saudi Arabia. The delegation was composed of: Dr. Issa  Shamakh, Member of the Board of the Human Rights Commission; Mr. Ahmad Yahya, Secretary of the Board of the Commission; Mr. Adel Khathlan, Counsel at the Office of the President of the Commission; Mr. Nayef Mualla, researcher in international human rights perspectives; and Mr. Mohamed Hammali, researcher in organizations management and International Relations at the Commission. The meeting was also attended by Counsel Khalid Almenzalawi, from the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the UN in Geneva.

The Geneva Centre and the Sultanate of Oman: A constructive cooperation for national and regional benefits

In the framework of the continuous efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to enhance capacity building and develop political and legal institutions, H.E. Ambassador Abdullah Al-Rahbi, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations in Geneva, organized a meeting with the Geneva Centre. The meeting was attended by a high-level Omani delegation representing more than twenty-four deputy Ministers, Governors and heads of Local Authorities, who were following an intensive training program in Switzerland, and by UN Senior Officials and Experts. The aim was to exchange views on generic human rights issues, as well as on the modalities to further enhance Oman’s involvement in the Human Rights Council and its related Mechanisms.

Geneva Centre to Cooperate with the League of Arab States

On the sidelines of the visit of a high-level ministerial Arab delegation to Switzerland, H.E. Dr. Hanif Al-Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre’s Board of Management, has met with H.E. Dr. Nabil El Araby, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in order to discuss future areas of cooperation and enhance coordination on Arab issues, particularly with regard to the work of the United Nations Human Rights Council and its related mechanisms.
