2 October 2017, GENEVA/DUBAI – The Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue H. E. Dr. Hanif Al Qassim appealed to the world community to provide financial, technical and material assistance to Bangladesh and the UN in providing adequate housing and shelter to the approximately 700,000 Rohingyan refugees - entrenched in Bangladesh - after fleeing persecution and oppression in Myanmar.

UN global symposium: Arab region and the West need to define a common agenda to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment

15 September 2017, GENEVA – International experts on women’s rights from the Arab region and the West called on decision-makers from the Global South and the Global North to increase their efforts towards addressing barriers and challenges impeding the realization of women’s rights and gender equality. This conclusion was reached during a panel debate organized at the United Nations Office in Geneva held on 15 September on the theme of "Women’s rights in the Arab region: between myth and reality."

The Geneva Centre participates in the 2017 Quai Wilson Photo Exhibition

12 September 2017, GENEVA – The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue is participating in the 2017 Quai Wilson photo exhibition organized by Green Cross International. The Quai Wilson photo exhibition is an initiative launched by the Republic and the Canton of Geneva enabling leading organizations to profile their activities at Geneva’s famous lakeside promenade commonly known as the Quai Wilson

The photo exhibition was officially inaugurated on 4 September and will last until 30 September 2017.

The Geneva Centre appeals for an end to the persecution of Rohingyans in Myanmar

29 August 2017, GENEVA – The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (hereinafter “The Geneva Centre”) – a think tank with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council – deplores persistent discrimination against the Muslim minority in Myanmar which, as had been foreseen has lead to radicalization of the situation followed by the military clampdown by security forces against the Rohingyans in the Rakhine State in western Myanmar.  

The Geneva Centre issues new publication on the Right to Development

15 August 2017, GENEVA – A new publication entitled “The Right to Development, 30 Years Later: Achievements, Challenges and The Way Forward” has been released by the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (“The Geneva Centre”). The publication is an outcome of a panel discussion that was held on 5 December 2016 at Palais des Nations in Geneva addressing the same subject. The panel debate was arranged by the Geneva Centre and the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG).

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) grants special consultative status to the Geneva Centre

27 July 2017, GENEVA – During its Coordination and Management Meeting held on 25 - 26  July 2017, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted a resolution granting the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (the Geneva Centre) special consultative status. The NGO Committee of ECOSOC reviewed the Geneva Centre’s candidacy for special consultative status during its session in New York held from 22 May to 23 May 2017. This session was attended by the Geneva Centre’s Executive Director Ambassador Idriss Jazairy.

Training Program for UAE Journalists in Dubai: The Geneva Centre launches its "Human Rights-Media" cycle

A top-class program whose title announced in advance the timeliness of its implementation and the importance of its realization. 23 June 2017, DUBAI – The Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue (“The Geneva Centre”) Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim has been nominated as a member of the International Institute for Tolerance’s Board of Trustees. A decree was issued on 21 June 2017 by the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the establishment of the International Institute for Tolerance and the Board of Trustees.
