From 16th to 19th November, the Geneva Centre held a training course entitled Promotion and Protection of Human Rights: Strengthening the Rule of Law. The 13 young professionals that took part in the training programme included members of the Emirates Association of Lawyers and Legal Experts, of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, diplomats from the League of Arab States in Cairo, as well as UAE diplomats working at the UAE Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.

The 4-day training programme provided students with an overview of international human rights law, of the international and regional instruments responsible of promoting and protecting human rights, as well as of the interplay between international humanitarian law and human rights. The session involved lectures by United Nations experts and human rights academics, including, inter aliaH. E. Dr. Sameh Aboul-Enein, Ambassador of the League of Arab States to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva; Ms. Kamelia KemilevaExecutive Manager of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights; and Dr. Mohammed Amin Al-Midani, President of the Arab Centre for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Education.

This tailored training aimed at enhancing human rights awareness, knowledge and skills of the participants, and provided them with the necessary theoretical tools to advance their career in the human rights field.
