During the 30th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference, held in Paris in 1999, the 21st March was declared as World Poetry Day.
The Geneva Centre, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations Office and other international organizations and the United Nations Office at Geneva, is organizing the celebration of World Poetry Day, to be held on March 24th.
The ultimate goal is to promote cultural diversity and propose a forum of exchange in order to share traditions through poetry and music, as well as to contribute to the construction of peace, dialogue and prosperity between peoples.
When: 24th March, 2015
Where: Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva.
“As a deep expression of the human mind and as a universal art, poetry is a tool for dialogue and rapprochement. The dissemination of poetry helps to promote dialogue among cultures and understanding between peoples because it gives access to the authentic expression of a language.”
–. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO.
